Practice my ABACA without the sheet

Practice major scales

26 May 2010

Today in music class Mr.Herry did a task review of what we have done. He checked us wether we've submitted the hardcopy and softcopy of our rondo on Finale or not. He also checked us on our blogs. He told us to upload our practice videos to the blog and we should upload it up to 15 videos. Then he introduced us to MDW that we have to download from student desk as a part of our current task. After that we are all asked to prepare ourselves for the assessment rehearsal. As usual piano gets the turn first while other instruments are doing their preparation. I got my turn and I played major scales with a bit of problem, because I haven't practiced in playing scales for a while. Then I play my rondo composition which turned out pretty good because I've been practicing quite a lot. I will practice playing the scales as well as my rondo for the upcoming assessment.

Practice my ABACA

Practice my ABACA

21 May 2010

Today is a very simple day in the life of every music student in grade 9. Each one of us are told to perform our song in front. The first turn goes to piano and I played my song very well. After that I just sat and watch the others play. I will practice my song again.

19 May 2010

Today in music class we are taught by Mr.John Legoh. He is replacing Mr.Herry who was absent on that day. First he told us to draw the G clef with 3 sharps, and then write some of the notes in that scale. Some of us are called to the front and do it, but we couldn't because it's quite confusing to us. We have difficulty placing the sharp correctly and also the notes. After that Mr.John explained to us the correct way to write the scale with its proper sharps and notes. I listened and took notes carefully. I will review about the lesson he just gave.

14 May 2010

Today in music class we are introduced to a new music clef that is the C clef or Alto clef which is used for alto sax. Mr.Herry wrote the notes and showed us their position in the bar and lines. I copied it into my music book so I won't forget about it. Then we are asked to transcript a particular song that Mr.Herry had wrote in the board from G clef into C clef. I did it very well and very fast because I think it's simple and easy. Some of my friends were asked to go to the front and write their transcription as I watched them. After that Mr.Herry showed us our friend's Finale composition and he played it. It was by Ardito and it was pretty good. Since most of us are using the Finale 2010 software, Mr.Herry can't open it. He then introduced us to a technique to convert our file into a MIDI file so he can just play it. We all are asked to save our Finale 2010 document as a MIDI file and send it to Mr.Herry. I will do that.

In instrument class I practiced my song again, but this time Mr.Herry told that my left hand variation is a but too monotonous, so he introduced me to a more varied ways of playing my left hand. It was pretty complicated at first because I had to switch styles but I think I can get used to it. I practiced really well. I will practice my song with the new left hand variation at home and upload the video.

12 May 2010

Today in music class I did a simple exercise quiz that is about the musical terms, notations, and rests. I did it very well and really quick because I have understood it and have learned it before. The only problem I have is about the rests because they are not quite familiar to me. I have seen them being used in musical notations but I haven't go in depth about them yet so I kind of don't know what they mean or which is which. After that Mr.Herry wrote a song in the treble clef and asked us to change it into bass clef. I also did it very well and quick because I have long mastered the reading of both clefs, so I know where to put which notes. I will practice my knowledge on musical terms again.

In instrument class I was just practicing my rondo again and again. This time I tried to do it with the left hand variation so the song is not that boring. In my Finale I put my left hand as block chords, but it turns out to be not that good. I practiced really well. I will also practice my song at home over and over again until I finally get the hang of it.

Practice my ABACA with left hand variation

7 May 2010

Today in music class I submitted the hard copy of my composition in Finale. I have already sent the soft copy through email to Mr.Herry the night before, and I think I have done very well in making the Finale this time. I did the left hand too and now I have already understand some tools such as adding and locking number of bars so I don't have the problems that I had before. In theory class, I copied my composition with its chords to a new and tidy paper to be submitted to Mr.Herry. I also did the reflection at the back page of the paper regarding composing my ABACA rondo. I did it very well and I will practice my song more.

In instrument class I practiced my song over and over again with the chords as it is shown in my Finale. I played it very well but Mr.Herry said that maybe I should do more variation on my chords and I did. I'm not really good at that but I will go home and practice.

5 May 2010

Today in class Mr.Herry asked us about our composition. He told us that we need to put the chords so it will become a complete song when we put it into the Finale. After that he taught us about bass clef and locations of the note. Some of us are told to go to the white board in the front to put the correct notes. I did it very well because I have understood the concept. I will practice reading bass clef.

In instrument class I just practiced my ABACA composition again with the chord that has been given. I have quite mastered the song well and I think I have no problem in playing it with the chords. I showed Mr.Herry my playing. I will practice my song at home and also make the Finale transcription of my song.

Practice my ABACA

30 APRIL 2010 !!!!!!!

Today in music class Mr.Herry showed us some Finale tips. Most of us are having a hard time in operating the software, especially Finale 2010 which the file is can't be opened by Mr.Herry. I am also having a hard time when making my composition in the Finale so I guess it's not perfect. He told us some tips like how fix the number of measures become 4, put titles, put lyrics, put chords, how to delete bars, and also how to add bars. I listened very carefully because for the next time I want to preform better with my Finale. I will learn it and put my rondo composition in the Finale.

In instrument class I practiced my ABACA rondo composition repeatedly while waiting for my turn. I have already mastered playing the right hand so I don't have any problem. When it is my turn to play with Mr.Herry, he put the chords in my song while listening to my playing. After that I try to play the song with the left hand and I think I got the basics right already. I did not use the chord variations yet though, but I will practice that. At home I will practice my song both the right hand and left hand.

28 April 2010

Today in music class I got my score for the theory quiz and I did pretty well, which I got 40.5 out of 46, which is the third best score in the class. I checked my paper and see what mistake I did so I can correct myself then i return it to Mr.Herry. I also have already finished my ABACA composition at home up to the C part so I don't need to do it in the class. After that Mr.Herry did the checking of our blogs as usual and I've also updated it plus the videos, so I did very well and I'm safe from being sent to the library. I will constantly upload my blogs again.

In the instrument class I got a chance to practice my ABACA rondo composition. I have practiced a little but at home so I'm pretty good at playing it. The song is also quite easy so I have no problem at all. Even though I'm quite satisfied with my melody, I did some changes as instructed by Mr.Herry to make it even better and improvised. He told me to find the left hand chords for the song so I will do it. I will practice my rondo at home.

Practice Big Triads Of All Chords

Practicing Left Hand Variations

23 April 2010

Today in music class I listened to the A composition of the ABACA made by my friends. Reinhart, Jody, and Brian combines their version of A into one song and MR.Herry played it in the piano. After that I continue making the B part of my composition with different pattern to make the song more catchy and fun to listen. I did it very well with some changes and improvisation. I will practice that song in the piano and also continue making the C part.

In instrument class I practiced the left hand variations again. I have already practiced and understand this thing so I did it very well. I did every chord's version of it and I think I'm pretty good. I will practice more so my playing will be better and not just feel confident with my current skills.

21 April 2010

Today in music class I finally submitted my A A' B A' composition that has been transcripted into the Finale. I had a bit of difficulty in operating the Finale software but I managed to finish the task like that. I didn't add some things like lyrics because I just don't know how to do it, and maybe I'll revise it. Mr.Herry also checked our blog and videos updates, and tell the students who haven't done it to go to library and do it. I've done my blog updates, so I stayed in the class while watching video of commercials that uses catchy jingle music such as Coca Cola. Mr.Herry then introduced us into making a A B A C A rondo for our next composition. I started making the A part with some repetition to make the song catchy as a jingle. I check it over and over to make sure wether I want to make some changes or no. I will practice that song.

In instrument class we only had limited time left. So I just play the Big Triad of C D E F G as Mr.Herry told me. I have practiced and I can say that my playing is better than last time although there's still some mistakes here and there. I will practice more and upload the video of it to my blog.

16 April 2010

Today in music class Mr.Herry gave us 3 videos to watch. Those are 3 popular music videos of different songs by different artists. The first is "When You Say Nothing At All" by Alison Krauss. She sang it with a group and everybody has their parts in performing that music, like guitarist pianist and more, so she's not the only one taking the spotlight. She sang the song in it's original tone and did no improvisation, although it's very good. The second video is "Somewhere Over The Rainbow" by Katharine McPhee where she sings it solo. It was a brilliant solo performance and I feel totally emerged into her music. Her voice is so beautiful and she did some nice improvisations like changing the tone or making her voice pitch higher or holding a note longer, which will only contribute to making the song even more better. The third and last video is a composition by a binus student named Adeline Kodji. She played her own composition in the piano so smooth and beautiful. There's no mistake and her melody is catchy. She manages to use the wide variety of chords effectively so every time we hear it, we feel something new. The melody is great and she did some important improvisations to make the song even more better. In overall, her mastery of piano technique, superb performance, and composition is amazing.

In instrument class I practiced the "Big Triad" again. But because of some business with homework and tests with other subjects I haven't practiced that much at home. I messed up a lot and I will try to improve it. Mr.Herry also taught us about many types of broken chords for the C chord, so next time we play the left hand we can do it better. I will practice it at home so I won't have any finger difficulties any more that I have because I have weak motor skills.

14 April 2010

Today in music class I did the second music theory test that's about the history of classical & popular music as well as the major scales, major minor triads, and chord inversions. It's basically a test to fix what we have done wrong in the previous test so we get better scores. I've studied well from the previous test so I did very good, although some question about the history is a bit unfamiliar to me. I will study more regarding the history of popular music.

In instrument class I practiced the "Big Triad" again. Although I've practiced it at home, some parts are a bit hard for me. Like for the second big triad, I have to change my fingering to fit the notes, and that's a bit complicated and confusing to me. I will practice it more at home as well as upload the practice video to my blog.

Practicing Major Minor Triads As Well As C Chord's Inversion

9 April 2010

Today in music class I did the music theory test that's about major minor scales as well as their triads and inversions. I've studied and understand the topic by practicing it in my piano, so I know what notes to be turned into "sharp" or "flat" in order to keep up with the 1-1-half-1-1-1-half scheme. In the last section of the test, there are also some questions about the history of classical & popular music, which is also a topic that we have studied. I haven't studied much on this matter though so I found some questions to be hard and unfamiliar. But in overall I did very well and I will study more about the classical & popular music. Before splitting into instrument class, Mr.Herry explained to us about the Finale software which we're gonna use to transcript our own composition.

In instrument class I did the major chords of different scales as well as their inversion. I did it very well because I've practiced although certain chords (like B chord) is very hard when doing the inversion. Mr.Herry also introduced me to the "big triad" which I did it on the C chord. I will practice it more on the piano as well as update my blog and upload the video.

7 April 2010

Today is the first day of music class for term 4. This time, we reviewed again about some of the stuffs we learned in term 3, such as the different types of major scales and also their triads, like the 1st inversion and 2nd inversion. I did it very well because I already have a deep understanding regarding this topic. Still, I will practice it more on my piano as well as reviewing the scales for the upcoming test on friday.

In instrument class I practiced the triads of all major scales as well as doing the inversion of the C chord. I also did play the minor chord for each triad. I did it very well and nice although my finger is sometimes a bit mixed up while doing the chord inversions. I'm going to practice doing the inversions a lot at home and get the movement of my finger to be more fluid.

19 March 2010

Today is the last day of music class for this term. We were asked by Mr.Herry to do a feedback on him and his teachings. I feedbacked him in detail such as the positive traits that he has, and how he can improve his teachings to be better. After that each one of us is called to the front to read the feedback so Mr.Herry will know what he needs to work on. I also watched the make up assessment by Disha, Fira, and Ika because they were absent during the assessment day. The last thing Mr.Herry taught in theory class now is more major minor scales with their triads in clear detail. I'll learn more about those scales and triads.

In instrument class I did all the minor major chords with both hands. I did it in an ascending way and I must say my playing is excellent because I made no mistakes. I will practice these scales and chords again for the upcoming term.

17 March 2010

Today is the assessment day for playing my own popular song composition. Mr.Herry decided to make piano students play first during the assessment and it's also alphabetically. The only piano students attending the class at that day was me and adrian. So we're a bit nervous. I have practiced that song a lot of times with a chord variation for the left hand so I ready.

When we're called into the room, Adrian played the song first while I listened. After that it's my turn and I get to the front and put my sheet on the piano. Mr.Herry took a picture first before I start. I played it quite well for the melody and also the chord, but because the room was so cold and time after time I get a bit nervous, so there's a bit mistake in my playing. But overall I've done well in the final assessment for this term. During the holiday I'll practice my piano playing skill, especially for popular song with the chord.

Sunday, March 14, 2010

12 March 2010

Today in music class Mr.Herry explained to us about some other major scales that is F major, Bb major, Eb mjor, and Ab major. He explained in a very detailed way as to where we place the "flat" sign in the note and drew it on the board for us. After that he also showed us about the major and minor chords of those scale and told us about which notes should be changed to "flat" in order to get the proper minor/major sound of the chords. I will learn and practice these chords and scales.

In instrument class I rehearsed my melody once again with the left hand playing the rhythm. Mr.Herry taught me some techniques for the left finger chord and rhythm to make my playing better and more enjoyable. I practiced very well and I think I'm already good in playing my composition. I will practice it again at home so it will become perfect for the assessment day.

10 March 2010

Today in music class we cancelled the assessment that us playing our own popular song composition using the AA'BA' form. It's because most of us haven't practiced the song. I already did practice but I think it's better if it's delayed so I get more time to practice. After that Mr.Herry did the checking of our blog in front of us. We all watched as every one of us got our blog checked by him. My blog is very good. He also showed us about the Music Developmental Workbook that we have to do and we hear and watch his explanation closely. I will update my blog everyday.

In instrument class I practiced my AA'BA' popular song on the piano for the upcoming assessment. Although it's a final copy of the song, I did some changes to the note that I think is hard to play and I shall revise it to Mr.Herry. It's my own composition and I tried to rehearse it very carefully. I will practice that song more and more at home so my playing become prefect.

5 March 2010

Holiday again because of something so I don't go to school and got no music class

Extra Post: 26 February 2010

3 March 2010

Today in music class I did the assessment that is performing the classical repertoire. I played the song Canon in D Major while Mr.Herry record me playing it. I've been practicing a lot of times, but when playing I feel a bit nervous so there's some mistake. I will improve myself in playing classical music with no mistake at all.

Saturday, February 27, 2010

24th February 2010

Today in music class we all did the rehearsal for our classical repertoire. Each and every one of us in the class perform our classical music with our own instrument in front of the class. When my turn come I go to the front and play my classical song Canon in D Major on the piano. I did it very well and very good and also very confident. But there's a bit of improvisation to the note that I shouldn't do, so my playing is not perfect yet. I will practice at home to play it according to the music sheet so when the assessment day comes, I'll be perfectly ready.

In instrument class I practiced the song again. But I got the turn to play it with the tutorial of Mr.Herry, who guides me with the notes so I won't do anymore improvisation. I did listen to him very carefully and do as he said. I will practice my song more and more to be excellent.

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

19th February 2010

Today in music class I finished my final composition of popular song titled "Symphony Of Antashari Azhar" and also made the lyrics. I did it very fast and very well although I did some major changes. I will practice that song and update my blog.

In instrument class I practiced my classical song again that is Canon in D Major. I did it quite well but there's a bit of mistake because I play classical song as if they're a popular song, because I did some variation that is actually not allowed. I will practice that song again and again.

17th February 2010

Today in music theory class I learned how to make a blog by watching Kartika do it. I watched carefully so I understand how to do it. Then Mr.Herry played my composition so I can review it. I listen it very well. I will copy and make the final draft on my composition with the lyrics.

In instrument class I've chosen the classical song to play that is Canon in D Major. I chose it because it's very familiar with me. I will practice that song.

12th February 2010

Today in music class I learned more about composing a 32 bar popular song using the A A' B A' form and after that I also finished my own composition. I did it very well in the composition by using my inner creativity. Next time I will practice my song so I can perform it well.

In instrument class I played my classical song called Canon in D Major by J.Pachelbel. I played it well but a bit forget in some parts because I didn't read the notes/text. Next time I will practice my playing to make it more perfect.

10th February 2010

Today in music class I didn't submit my music booklet because I haven't print it, so I will submit it tomorrow. I also learn how to compose a popular song 8 bars with the A A' B A' form. I did the composition very well because reading and writing notes in their correct position is familiar to me. I will completely finish the music booklet by printing and submit it tomorrow.

In instrument class I play minor and major chords and continue composing my song. I did it very well. I will practice my song.

Thursday, February 18, 2010

2nd February 2010

Today in music class I did the assessment that is duet singing of popular music with Reinhart. The song is the song we've been practicing all this time titled "Blowin' In The Wind" by Bob Dylan. I've been practicing at home so I did it in a confident way that I tried to sing the best as i could. Although i tried it very well, there's a bit of mistake in my tone when i sing together with Reinhart (the duet part). I will practice more singing to make my tone suiting and better.

In instrument class i reviewed the major & minor scales i've been given to study, such as C,G,D,A,E,B,F. After that i was asked to play minor/major chords with two hands on the piano. I did it quite well because i've been practicing. Next time i will practice more and more everyday to make my piano playing smoother and better.

29th January 2010

Today in music theory class I did a powerpoint presentation of classical vs popular music . I did it with my group Arfa, Haroun, and Dito. We made a very good preparation so we're not nervous or scared during the presentation. I did it in a confident way although not so serious because i take some parts of the presentation so lightly. Next time i will concentrate more and be serious every time there's a presentation

In instrument class i learned major chords and scale and have to do it with both my hands. I did it very well although there's a slight mistake in certain parts. I will practice more on these scales on piano.

22nd January 2010

Today in music theory class i sang the popular song called "Blowin' In The Wind" by Bob Dylan with my presentation group. I also did the mind-mapping for my group presentation with Haroun, Arfa, and Dito. After that i present my mind map to the class. I did very well in the singing and also the mind-mapping, because i put all of my effort to it. Next time i will research again about classical and popular music.

In instrument class Mr.Herry told me to play different major & minor scales using my both hands, so i did it. I did it very well because i know the basics and i can play piano. Next time i will further advance my skills and practice more to make the scale more perfect.

20th January 2010

Today in music class i learned about different kinds of major scales and also learn to sing the popular song titled "Over The Rainbow". I studied major scales pretty good because i am able to easily grasp the concept, but i'm not really good when singing Over The Rainbow. I will learn more to sing and also going to divide jobs for my group presentation of classical versus popular music.

15th January 2010

Today in music class I listen to Mr.Herry explaining about the things i need to know in music class. He explained about assessment criteria and the essential resources & agreement i need to have in being a music student. I listened to him very carefully and write notes about it. After that i was divided into my musical instrument groups, and i chose piano. I will do my classical and popular music research and also practice piano.
