Practice my ABACA without the sheet

Practice major scales

26 May 2010

Today in music class Mr.Herry did a task review of what we have done. He checked us wether we've submitted the hardcopy and softcopy of our rondo on Finale or not. He also checked us on our blogs. He told us to upload our practice videos to the blog and we should upload it up to 15 videos. Then he introduced us to MDW that we have to download from student desk as a part of our current task. After that we are all asked to prepare ourselves for the assessment rehearsal. As usual piano gets the turn first while other instruments are doing their preparation. I got my turn and I played major scales with a bit of problem, because I haven't practiced in playing scales for a while. Then I play my rondo composition which turned out pretty good because I've been practicing quite a lot. I will practice playing the scales as well as my rondo for the upcoming assessment.

Practice my ABACA

Practice my ABACA

21 May 2010

Today is a very simple day in the life of every music student in grade 9. Each one of us are told to perform our song in front. The first turn goes to piano and I played my song very well. After that I just sat and watch the others play. I will practice my song again.

19 May 2010

Today in music class we are taught by Mr.John Legoh. He is replacing Mr.Herry who was absent on that day. First he told us to draw the G clef with 3 sharps, and then write some of the notes in that scale. Some of us are called to the front and do it, but we couldn't because it's quite confusing to us. We have difficulty placing the sharp correctly and also the notes. After that Mr.John explained to us the correct way to write the scale with its proper sharps and notes. I listened and took notes carefully. I will review about the lesson he just gave.

14 May 2010

Today in music class we are introduced to a new music clef that is the C clef or Alto clef which is used for alto sax. Mr.Herry wrote the notes and showed us their position in the bar and lines. I copied it into my music book so I won't forget about it. Then we are asked to transcript a particular song that Mr.Herry had wrote in the board from G clef into C clef. I did it very well and very fast because I think it's simple and easy. Some of my friends were asked to go to the front and write their transcription as I watched them. After that Mr.Herry showed us our friend's Finale composition and he played it. It was by Ardito and it was pretty good. Since most of us are using the Finale 2010 software, Mr.Herry can't open it. He then introduced us to a technique to convert our file into a MIDI file so he can just play it. We all are asked to save our Finale 2010 document as a MIDI file and send it to Mr.Herry. I will do that.

In instrument class I practiced my song again, but this time Mr.Herry told that my left hand variation is a but too monotonous, so he introduced me to a more varied ways of playing my left hand. It was pretty complicated at first because I had to switch styles but I think I can get used to it. I practiced really well. I will practice my song with the new left hand variation at home and upload the video.

12 May 2010

Today in music class I did a simple exercise quiz that is about the musical terms, notations, and rests. I did it very well and really quick because I have understood it and have learned it before. The only problem I have is about the rests because they are not quite familiar to me. I have seen them being used in musical notations but I haven't go in depth about them yet so I kind of don't know what they mean or which is which. After that Mr.Herry wrote a song in the treble clef and asked us to change it into bass clef. I also did it very well and quick because I have long mastered the reading of both clefs, so I know where to put which notes. I will practice my knowledge on musical terms again.

In instrument class I was just practicing my rondo again and again. This time I tried to do it with the left hand variation so the song is not that boring. In my Finale I put my left hand as block chords, but it turns out to be not that good. I practiced really well. I will also practice my song at home over and over again until I finally get the hang of it.

Practice my ABACA with left hand variation

7 May 2010

Today in music class I submitted the hard copy of my composition in Finale. I have already sent the soft copy through email to Mr.Herry the night before, and I think I have done very well in making the Finale this time. I did the left hand too and now I have already understand some tools such as adding and locking number of bars so I don't have the problems that I had before. In theory class, I copied my composition with its chords to a new and tidy paper to be submitted to Mr.Herry. I also did the reflection at the back page of the paper regarding composing my ABACA rondo. I did it very well and I will practice my song more.

In instrument class I practiced my song over and over again with the chords as it is shown in my Finale. I played it very well but Mr.Herry said that maybe I should do more variation on my chords and I did. I'm not really good at that but I will go home and practice.

5 May 2010

Today in class Mr.Herry asked us about our composition. He told us that we need to put the chords so it will become a complete song when we put it into the Finale. After that he taught us about bass clef and locations of the note. Some of us are told to go to the white board in the front to put the correct notes. I did it very well because I have understood the concept. I will practice reading bass clef.

In instrument class I just practiced my ABACA composition again with the chord that has been given. I have quite mastered the song well and I think I have no problem in playing it with the chords. I showed Mr.Herry my playing. I will practice my song at home and also make the Finale transcription of my song.

Practice my ABACA

30 APRIL 2010 !!!!!!!

Today in music class Mr.Herry showed us some Finale tips. Most of us are having a hard time in operating the software, especially Finale 2010 which the file is can't be opened by Mr.Herry. I am also having a hard time when making my composition in the Finale so I guess it's not perfect. He told us some tips like how fix the number of measures become 4, put titles, put lyrics, put chords, how to delete bars, and also how to add bars. I listened very carefully because for the next time I want to preform better with my Finale. I will learn it and put my rondo composition in the Finale.

In instrument class I practiced my ABACA rondo composition repeatedly while waiting for my turn. I have already mastered playing the right hand so I don't have any problem. When it is my turn to play with Mr.Herry, he put the chords in my song while listening to my playing. After that I try to play the song with the left hand and I think I got the basics right already. I did not use the chord variations yet though, but I will practice that. At home I will practice my song both the right hand and left hand.

28 April 2010

Today in music class I got my score for the theory quiz and I did pretty well, which I got 40.5 out of 46, which is the third best score in the class. I checked my paper and see what mistake I did so I can correct myself then i return it to Mr.Herry. I also have already finished my ABACA composition at home up to the C part so I don't need to do it in the class. After that Mr.Herry did the checking of our blogs as usual and I've also updated it plus the videos, so I did very well and I'm safe from being sent to the library. I will constantly upload my blogs again.

In the instrument class I got a chance to practice my ABACA rondo composition. I have practiced a little but at home so I'm pretty good at playing it. The song is also quite easy so I have no problem at all. Even though I'm quite satisfied with my melody, I did some changes as instructed by Mr.Herry to make it even better and improvised. He told me to find the left hand chords for the song so I will do it. I will practice my rondo at home.
